the following solution will most likely work: 1) Stop evolution. 2) Move folder ~/.evolution/mail to desktop. 3) Start evolution. I'll do more testing this weekend. Optimised for standards. I used synaptic package manager to reinstall evolution.

It appears to have resolved the issue. I get the error only after evolution check the mail on google, and I get: (evolution:13643): camel-local-provider-WARNING **: Expected a From line here, didn't get it 2893726 note that inbox is It seems there is a database listing the various mail box files that can get corrupted, and just deleting the individual cmeta and index files does not fix this up.
After that it fetched all emails again and filtering succeeded. Read this for more information and check this to make sure you do know what you're doing. But only once.
